Progress in UK cold case investigation resulted in justice when  Judge John Devaux sentenced Peter Hull to six years incarceration for the 1994 rape of an unidentified woman. “A review of the case was undertaken in 2008 and DNA put on to the national database. A […]

Sharron Prior

The 1975 murder of Sharron Prior. Joe Giacalone and I teamed up to explore the nightmare that has haunted Point-St.-Charles ever since. We read the website that was made for Sharron and all the newspaper articles. Below are our observations and first reactions. What happened? Sharron (16) disappeared on March 29, 1975 after leaving from her home […]

December 12, 2010 By Alice

Gregory McRoberts

On Dec 12, 1991, Gregory McRoberts (24) was struck while riding his bicycle around 7 pm. He was near his home at 1862 S. Meridian in Lee Township (Michigan) according to Sheriff Jerry Nielsen. There is an article about this heartbreaking case on mlive.com and I highly recommend reading it. Greg was reported missing on December 16, […]

Zeigler, Part XVII

December 12, 2010 By Alice

William Th. Zeigler with his wife Eunice Edwards-Zeigler

In my previous post “Zeigler, Part XVI“, I referred to the Jellison tape that was conveniently kept from the defense team. It was only recovered in April of 1987, when Zeigler’s lawyers made a Florida Public Records Act request for the files of the State Attorney in Orlando. That’s when they discovered (aside from the “Buried Thompson report”) […]

Sum it up! #49

December 11, 2010 By Alice

sum it up #cclivechat

You see, what I don’t like about most cold case websites that I have seen is that they do not tell stories. They are a collection of links to newspaper articles or magazines. If you want to read more, you must click on all the links and try to get the chronology right yourself. You read […]

Author Notes

On this website, I write about old, unsolved cases. Most are from the pre-DNA era and are in need of renewed media attention. I only do research and leave the active investigation of these cases to the professionals.

My posts are about homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to these cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme and research. It remains my prerogative to not review a book.

My database has over 300 cases listed by the victim’s last name. You will find a brief description there as well. The database will always be free to the public to use. You cannot buy ad space on my website, ever.

All writing suggestions that come in by email are added to my to-do list in the order in which they were received. Please be patient. My to-do list is very long but no case gets dropped and I will get back in touch.

Defrosting Cold Cases is NOT an organization. It is my brainchild.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the about page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you still cannot find the answer there, please contact me.

Thank you,

Alice de Sturler

Richard Lapointe

Category: ALL POSTS

In March 2015, the Connecticut State Supreme Court ordered a new trial for Richard lapointe. On Oct 2, 2015, International Wrongful Conviction Day, Richard was set free. The judge ruled that he cannot be retried for the 1987 rape-murder of Mrs. Bernice Martin. Richard Lapointe died on Aug 4, 2020 of Covid19 complications.

In 1987, someone killed Bernice Martin. I hope that she will not become a forgotten file.
