What happened to Karen Angelillo Ramsey?

June 12, 2024 By Alice

About 44 years ago, Karen Angelillo Ramsey went missing. Her remains were found on April 16, 2024 in Patterson. Someone had to know about this even though I cannot find in the few newspaper articles online if she was reported missing. But it makes you wonder.

UPDATE: her death has been ruled a homicide but the cause of death was not mentioned in the article.

Remains found

The papers said the remains were from a “white female between 16 and 28 years of age with extensive dental work. It is believed that the victim has been deceased for more than 10 years.”

At the time she went missing, Karen was 25 years old and lived in Southeast, New York. Someone must have noticed she was gone.

Extensive dental work means medical appointments, bills, checkups, insurance, and depending on her family situation, there might have been other medical appointments (OBGYN, pediatrics for example) she may have missed.

Someone from those healthcare offices must have tried to contact her to keep her appointments. And, someone must have placed her remains where she was found.

Questions

Authorities are still trying to determine the cause of death and have not given away exactly where on the construction site Karen’s remains were found. We know it was on a lot where a new home was planned near the intersection of Ice Pond Road and Tommy Thurber Lane on the Southeast/Patterson boarder in Putnam County.

We do not know how she was found during the excavation work

  • was she wrapped in some kind of material, or
  • underneath rubble or other material to hide her remains, or
  • near old tree trunks (makeshift grave?) or
  • dug in deep (mimic grave) or more shallow, or if
  • anything was found near or on her such as clothes, jewelry, a weapon, anything that might shed a light on her death.

Last, a quote from this paper was corrected on June 12, 2024.

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.
