Jackson County prosecutors today filed 22 charges against Bernard Jackson, a twice-convicted sex offender, in connection with the series of rapes that terrified women in the Waldo area a year ago.
Prosecutors used DNA from a lotion bottle and a shirt to link Jackson, 53, to two of the five attacks that happened between September 2009 and February 2010, according to court records released today.
Investigators also matched one of Jackson’s boots to a footprint left behind at a victim’s house, and that victim picked Jackson out of a video line-up as her attacker, according to the records.”
Jackson will also stand trial for four rapes in the Waldo area dating back to the 80s. Touch-DNA was used to solidify the case. “Forensic scientists pulled Jackson’s DNA from a lotion bottle and a shirt sleeve recovered at a crime scene. The DNA profile was collected despite suspected rapist’s attempts went to protect his identity. According to court documents, the suspected rapist wore gloves, a condom and made his victims bathe after the assault.”
