The trial against Michael Scott Glazebrook started on January 30, 2023 and ended February 7 with a guilty verdict for the 1981 murder of Sonia Carmen Herok-Stone. The jury deliberated for almost six hours.
“In 2023, after an eight-day jury trial before the Honorable Pamela L. Butler, the jury convicted Glazebrook of first-degree murder.
The jury also found true an enhancement that he personally used a deadly weapon in the commission of the crime and the special circumstance allegation that the murder occurred in the commission or attempted commission of the crime of rape.”
Glazebrook (67) will most likely spent the rest of his life in prison with no chance for parole.
When the trial began, the expectation was that it would last a few weeks. However, it was over in eight days. According to those who were there, it went fast. The defense thoroughly cross-examined almost every witness.
There has not been a lot online about this trial. The only piece online at the time of writing is this 2021 article here, which is updated with the verdict.
While he was free, Glazebrook worked as a school bus driver for the Salinas Unified High School District. He lived in Seaside.
UPDATE: Sentencing is scheduled for June 7, 2023 and he faces life without parole.

Glazebrook stood trial twice before for Sonia’s murder. You can read all about that here. With modern technology, his DNA was found under Sonia’s broken fingernail. His DNA was also found on her right breast.
My gratitude to the family for giving me Sonia’s picture to use on the website. All articles about this case are here.
