Deanna Michelle Merryfield Grid AdS 500
Grid AdS 500

Deanna Michelle Merryfield has been missing since July 22, 1990. In the grid, you can see an age progression from a young Deanna to an estimate made in 2011 (upper right) and 2015.

There are no new updates on NamUs, where I found her case. That file was created on Feb 22, 2010.

Identification

Deanna was thirteen years old when she went missing from Killeen, Bell County, Texas. Her date of birth is Feb 2, 1977. She is white, approx. 5′ 2″ – 5′ 5″ (62 – 65 Inches) and between 108-120 lbs. Her hair is strawberry blond and she has a scar on her upper lip.

On one website her eyes are hazel, on another they are green. According to this website, she broke her lower left arm 2-3 years before she went missing. Dental records and DNA are available.

Deanna has several tattoos. One is from her last name “Merryfield” with an unknown date placed on her neck. I am not sure where on her neck. Another tattoo is a yellow rose with “Texas Born” on her back. Again, no details as to exact placement on her back. Last, she has a cross with lines on her right ankle.

Circumstances of Disappearance

Deanna and her grandmother were staying up late to watch movies on July 21, 1990. After her grandmother went to bed, Deanna left unseen to visit her twin sister, Rebecca. Rebecca was living with an uncle a few miles away at the Oak Springs Trailer Park on Dimple Street. Why the twins were split up, I don’t know. Some articles hint at problems in the family and sexual abuse.

According to Rebecca, Deanna showed up around 330am. She was in a car with two men. The girls spoke for a while and then, Deanna left with those two men in their vehicle after her uncle woke up. She was never seen again.

The car was either a brown or bronze four-door with two men inside. There is no information as to the model of the car. Some sites claim to know the men’s race. However, we do not know who saw what from what distance and how well-lit that area was around 330am. Therefore, I am not going to speculate.

Sightings

According to this article, there have been some sightings. How reliable they were remains to be seen.

  1. In 1992, Rebecca received a collect call from someone claiming to be Deanna. When she accepted the call, nobody was there. The records traced it back to Cave City, Kentucky.
  2. In October 1995, during what might have been a traffic stop, Deanna’s name and date of birth were run through the Hurst Police computer. I assume this is Hurst, Texas.
  3. In the time period of 2000-2002, a relative living outside of Texas said that Deanna visited them  and said to that relative that she didn’t want to be found. Where this relative lives and their identity, seems to be unclear. They did say that Deanna apparently had gotten more tattoos or, they were just more visible. It is possible that this relative had never seen the neck tattoo before?

Did Deanna vanish voluntarily? Run away? It is possible but then why did she not take anything with her? According to this page, she left everything behind. I gather that includes money.

Kindly note that if Deanna Merryfield is ever found alive and does not want to contact her family, standard operating procedure is that police will respect her wishes.

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.
