Mary Emma Bisenthal Hammond  (Aug 1, 1958 – missing Sept 8, 1983) left for work in the early morning hours of September 8, 1983. She went missing and was never seen again. Her husband was never a suspect.

On June 8, 2022, Brantford police reported that they found DNA on evidence pieces collected at a Memorial Drive residence. This search happened on September 11, 1983. Several items were kept in custody until modern technology could tell us more.

Mitochondrial DNA showed that Stephen Mudko was most likely responsible for Mary’s abduction and murder. Had Mudko been alive today, he would be charged with first degree murder. Mudko, at the time of the crime 36 years old, lived on Memorial Drive in Brantford.

Alas, Mudko passed away on June 23, 2010. He might not be the only one responsible for Mary’s murder so the investigation remains ongoing. As Mary’s remains are still missing, and police need to know if other people were involved, they need your help. So, please click on the links in this post to see a picture of Mudko and read more about the case.

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.

Thank you,

Alice de Sturler
