Have you seen Larry Franklin Basnight?

October 2, 2024 By Alice

Larry Franklin BasnightLarry Franklin Basnight (DOB 5/23/1940 – Missing since 7/15/1984) was 44 years old when he vanished.

Larry, who was known as Frank or Frankie, was born on May 23, 1940. He disappeared on July 15, 1984 after he was released from the Chesapeake City Jail, Virginia. However, NamUs notes that “Larry was last seen in June, 1985.”

If alive today, he would be 84 years old.

Identifiers

Larry Franklin Basnight is Black, male, is missing one or both front teeth (not sure upper or lower jaw), was always well dressed and wore leather boots. Basnight was 5′ 9″ (69 Inches) tall, around 160 lbs, with brown eyes, black hair, and a thick moustache.

He has a dent in his forehead. The cause of that is unknown at this time. It would be interesting to know should unidentified remains be found with a similar indentation.

His mother was Carthine A. Barrow Basnight Bynum (April 14, 1920 – March 31, 1995) who passed away in 1995. She was 74 years old. She was a seamstress and co-owner of Bynum Upholstery and a member of Mt. Olive C.O.G.I.C., Bells Mills. His stepfather was Benjamin F. Bynum.

From the family: “He would never willingly disappear from my great-grandmother, my mom, or us kids. Even out in the streets, under the influence, he would never not call his mother and then make his way home.”

Note

I received the picture used in this post from the family. The only adjustments I made was cropping to focus on Larry’s face and improving the color balance.

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.
