Lay Them to Rest by Laurah Norton

October 13, 2023 By Alice

Lay Them to rest by Laurah Norton

Look at the cover of Laurah Norton’s book. Skeletal remains intertwined with nature indicating that the remains were exposed for quite some time. Note how the flowers lovingly embrace the skeleton and seem to uphold the skull. Head held high, supported by Mother Nature, the skeleton becomes one with the earth. Underneath the ribcage we […]

NamUs: underutilized. Why?

January 16, 2017 By Alice

“NamUs is one of the most underutilized tools, not just from law enforcement, but also from the public,” said retired NYPD Det. Joseph Giacalone, a former cold case investigator. “It’s one of the greatest tools that can be used to solve some of these cases, but no one knows about it.” Joseph Giacalone is no stranger […]

El Dorado Jane Doe: help her!

March 15, 2016 By Alice

El Dorado Police/Do you recognize this woman?

There are a few things that can get me mad fast. One is people saying “I cannot think of them as a victim.” I am talking about victims of crime who are not regarded as “completely innocent” by the public. As a result, their cases get less attention as the victims are blamed for their fate. They […]

Joe Helt

Joe Helt was last seen on January 16, 1987. The 17-year-old high school junior from Ellenville, New York, disappeared after a party at an abandoned ski lodge. One account states that he got a ride with three other teens, their car got stuck in the snow, and Joe decided to walk home. According to various […]

NamUS not used by all US Law Enforcement Agencies

March 8, 2010 By Alice

NamUS

NamUS, a new online database, promises to crack some of the nation’s 100,000 missing persons cases and provide answers to desperate families, but only a fraction of law enforcement agencies are using it. The clearinghouse, dubbed NamUs (Name Us), offers a quick way to check whether a missing loved one might be among the 40,000 sets […]

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.
