Gregory McRoberts DNA Update

December 19, 2025 By Alice

Gregory McRobertsThe Midland Daily News brings an exciting update in the 1991 hit-and-run case of Gregory McRoberts.

In 2010, I posted about the case and the letter that his parents received. It appeared to be from the driver who struck their son on his bike and left him to die.

The comment I mentioned came from author Phillip Finch. He wrote me that he suspected the driver/writer to be a woman or that a woman wrote this letter on behalf of someone else.

The newspaper now updates us on the case. A trace of DNA was found.

Gregory McRoberts’ daughter Teigha McRoberts (35) is going to meet a woman who is  “forensically linked as a third cousin to the person whose DNA was collected from the anonymous letter’s envelope.”

Keep in mind that this does not mean that woman was the driver. As Midland County Sheriff’s Det. Brent Benzing said “he doesn’t know if the DNA collected is that of the hit-and-run driver or someone who was in the vicinity of the envelope.”

However, this could be a potential lead. As soon as more information is published I will update the case.

If you have any information about the case, contact the Midland County Sheriff’s Office at 989-839-4600.

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.
