March 15, 2022 By Alice

On March 15, 2022 a jury found Mitchell Lynn Bacom guilty in the 1980 murder of Suzanne Arlene “Suzie” Bombardier.

On Feb 8, 2018, Bacom had plead not guilty. He faces life without parole. The sentencing date has not been set. As soon as I get more details I will update this post and the database as well.

“Having been convicted of first degree murder, along with special circumstances for commission of the murder during the course of burglary, kidnapping, and rape Bacom will be sentenced to life in prison without the possible of parole.”

The case is People v. Mitchell Lynn Bacom, docket 05-1911829-1.

On June 21, 1980, Suzie Bombardier (March 14, 1966 – June 22, 1980) went missing from the town of Antioch, California. On June 27, her nude body was found in the nearby San Joaquin river. Suzie died from one stab wound to the heart.

Police announced on July 1, 1996 that they still had evidence pieces in her case.

In 2015, the Police Department sent biological samples from Suzanne’s body to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Laboratory to create a DNA profile.

Lab technicians used the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System which tentatively linked to Bacom. The link was later confirmed after additional testing, police said.

“An advance in DNA matching technology allowed investigators to glean a usable sample from sperm cells found on Suzanne’s body. It matched to Bacom, who was in an FBI database because he’s a repeat sex offender with prior rape and sexual assault convictions.”

Rest in peace, Suzanne Arlene Bombardier.

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.

Thank you,

Alice de Sturler
