Update Stephen Miera

March 21, 2011 By Alice

Stephen Miera may have been forgotten by the media and the authorities but he is not forgotten by his family. His youngest sister, Antonia Light, emailed me some memories.

Antonia remembered that her mother had hired a private detective to see what he could find out. She thinks that his last name was Stone.

This private detective gave Antonia’s mother a report but she never allowed her children to read it. In fact, according to Antonia, she burned it at some point before her death in 1994.

Antonia also remembered that some of Stephen’s office furniture was returned to the Miera family. The chairs had blood stains on them. Antonia said that if she had known abck then about DNA testing, she would have preserved the chairs instead of cleaning them. She didn’t want her mother to see the blood stains. Antonia kept the chairs for a long time but ultimately, she sold them at a garage sale. She didn’t want to remember the blood on the chairs anymore.

Antonia will be going through the house and her papers to see whether she or her mother ever made any notes, ever quoted something from the private detective’s report in letters, diaries, or correspondence between the siblings, etc., in hopes that we find something that will move the Stephen Miera case along.

Stephen Miera was found bludgeoned to death in his Hawthorne (CA) real estate and insurance agency. His body was found by an employee on August 3, 1974. This employee came to the office to work. Stephen was last seen alive by employees as they left work around 7pm, Friday evening, August 2, 1974.

To be continued.

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.

Thank you,

Alice de Sturler
