The latest developments in the 2002 case of Elodie Kulik will be testing of hair elements and traces from the crime scenes with modern technology. This comes at the request of Willy Bardon. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the 2019 for the kidnapping, rape and murder of Elodie Kulik in Somme, France. He maintains his innocence.
The prosecutor in Amiens, France has now ordered new DNA tests and also vocal expertise. Depending on the test results it could help Bardon’s request to review his trial.
The prosecution, after reviewing the request, gathered scientific advice that lead prosecutor Jean-Philippe Vicentini to believe that “the evolution of analysis techniques in terms of voice and genetics” justifies the new tests.
To be tested again with modern technology are the hair samples found at the crime scene and voice/trace recordings. “The Institute of Criminal Research of the National Gendarmerie (IRCGN) also considered it relevant to review the registration of the call made by Elodie Kulik to rescue.” The defense hopes to establish if one of the two male voices that could be heard was indeed from Willy Barton.
Before she died, Elodie Kulik called France’s emergency services. A 26 second tape was played in court and is key evidence. Six witnesses testified during the initial trial that they recognized the voice of Willy Bardon on that tape. The other suspect, Gregory Wiart, passed away in 2003. His DNA was found at the crime scene. Bardon’s DNA was not found at the crime scene.
