Missing: Norvel Robert Nelson III

February 25, 2021 By Alice

Norvel Robert Nelson IIINorvel Robert Nelson III (nickname Bobby) was last seen on Jan 5, 2012 in Mineral Point, Washington County, Missouri. He was on his way to pick up some of his wife’s belongings that were in a trailer where at some point, she stayed. There is no information about the exact location of that trailer online. How many belongings? Did he carry bags? How was he going to transport the items back? And, back where?

I wonder if the trailer was in a wooden area where Bobby could easily have slipped, fallen, etc. I have not found anything online about possible scenarios with arguments, enemies, or difficulties in his past.

I also did not see anything about cell phone contact. Did Bobby carry a cellphone? If so, have we checked with his provider from where his last calls were made?

Has there been any activity on Bobby’s bank accounts? How was Bobby going to get to the trailer? Walk, car, public transportation, or a ride from someone? Did anyone see him en route to the trailer?

Bobby usually called his mother at least once per week. He has not done so since Jan 5, 2012. Bobby is legally blind and has short term memory loss. His eyesight does not necessarily rule out driving.

From the papers, it seems the authorities lean towards suspicious circumstances however there is no credible information to back up that theory according to the Daily Journal of March 7, 2012.

There is a possibility that Bobby had an accident and has passed away. His remains have not been found so, there is another option: Bobby is alive and just doesn’t know how to get back to his family. From information online, I saw that he has a son.

There are many unanswered questions in this case. Please take a look at the pictures and see if you recognize Bobby. His case was quickly entered into the NamUs database (case number #MP14025) on Feb 28, 2012. At the time that Bobby went missing, he was 37 years old. Today, he would be 46 years old.

Author Notes

On my website, I write about old, unsolved cases. Most are from the pre-DNA era and need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigation of these cases to the professionals.

My posts are about homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to these cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme and research. It remains my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more!

My database has hundreds of cases listed by the victim’s last name. You will find a brief description there as well. The database is free to the public.

All writing suggestions for cases that come in by email are added to my to-do list in the order in which they were received. Please be patient. My to-do list is very long but no case gets dropped and I will get back in touch.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the about page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you still cannot find the answer there, please contact me.

Thank you,

In March 2015, the Connecticut State Supreme Court ordered a new trial for Richard lapointe. On Oct 2, 2015, International Wrongful Conviction Day, Richard was set free. The judge ruled that he cannot be retried for the 1987 rape-murder of Mrs. Bernice Martin. Richard Lapointe died on Aug 4, 2020 of Covid19 complications.

In 1987, someone killed Bernice Martin. I hope that she will not become a forgotten file.
