More details in Amber Rose Nicklas Case

July 16, 2010 By Alice

More details are now available in the missing person case of Amber Rose Nicklas, the little girl who was abducted from California when she was just one year old and who resurfaced in Phoenix, AZ.

The family who raised her as their own are now fighting for legal custody. They claim that they had no idea that the baby was kidnapped when her biological grandmother, who is also part of their Romanian community, brought her to them and asked them to take care of her temporarily.

Police say that Amber’s three biological aunts kidnapped her during a non-custodial visit while she was living with foster parents in Los Angeles County. Supposedly, Amber Rose Nicklas’ mother is a drug addict and Amber was neglected by her biological parents. The family claim that by the time they learned the real story, their bond with the child couldn’t be broken.

They called her Sandra, and lived with her in a house where they also ran their psychic and Tarot reading business for the past seven years. Neighbors said they rarely saw customers at the establishment, but often saw the girl playing outside with the man they assumed was her father.

The family also denies changing the girl’s birthday, but they do admit to withholding her from school. They said that they tried many times to enroll her, but couldn’t because they didn’t have the proper paperwork. They tried to educate her via the Internet.

Amber Rose Nicklas was taken back to Los Angeles last Wednesday night. No charges have been filed. Read more here.

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.

Thank you,

Alice de Sturler
