Justice for Cheri Domingo and Greg Sanchez

June 29, 2020 By Alice

Justice at last. On June 29, 2020 at 130pm EST, we heard Joseph James DeAngelo Jr., a.k.a. the Golden State Killer plead guilty to the murders of Cheri Domingo and Greg Sanchez.

Today, DeAngelo Jr is pleading guilty to a string or murders, rapes, robberies, and other crimes that were committed from the mid-70s to the mid-80s in California.

The link above refers to a guest blog post about Cheri Domingo and Greg Sanchez. It was written by Debbi Domingo, Cheri Domingo’s daughter. I met Debbi in 2017 at the inaugural CrimeCon.

We spoke about her mom, trying to find new ways to review the cases, and how we can make sure that Cheri and Greg are not forgotten. I asked her to write a post about her mom and Greg. It is a loving tribute. To hear the prosecution describe the case will be hard for Debbi. I cannot image what she will feel when she finally hears DeAngelo Jr say ‘guilty.’ “The victims and their family members are expected to confront DeAngelo at an August sentencing, which is slated to last days. Victims are expected to read impact statements at that hearing.”

Joseph James DeAngelo, Jr was arrested on April 25, 2018. DeAngelo, Jr. is a serial killer, a rapist, and a burglar. He has 13 murders on his conscience, about 50 rapes, and more than 100 burglaries in California. All crimes were committed between 1974-1986 during three crime sprees. At first, they appeared to be unrelated crime sprees. Each spree got a different nickname. It wasn’t until the latest technology in forensics and familial DNA tied them all together.

Today DeAngelo faced the charges and plead guilty. It isn’t the justice many had hoped for as this plea isn’t the same as being tried in court and having to face your adversaries. I will post more or update this post as the day progresses. You can watch the proceedings here.

Sentencing and reading of victim impact statements is scheduled for August 17 and 18, 2020.

Author Notes

I write about old, unsolved cases from the pre-DNA era as they need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave the active investigation of these cases to professionals.

Posts include homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to these cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme and research. It remains my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the about page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.
