Identified: El Dorado Jane Doe

May 25, 2022 By Alice

El Dorado Police/Do you recognize this woman?
Kelly

We have the identity of the woman we came to know as El Dorado Jane Doe. Her first name is Kelly. Her family name is withheld for privacy reasons.

Kelly (1968 – July 10, 1991) was the unidentified murder victim found in a motel room on July 10, 1991 in El Dorado, Arkansas.

During the investigation it became clear that she had used several names including Mercedes for her friends, Cheryl Kaufman, Cheryl Ann Wick (which was the name on the identification card found with her body), Kelly Lee Carr or Karr, and Shannon or Sharon Wiley.

None of these are her real name except for the first name, Kelly.

Kelly was murdered by ex-boyfriend James McAlphin. McAlphin was convicted for her murder but he never revealed her identity. He demanded money in exchange for the information that could positively identify the El Dorado Jane Doe. But thanks to modern technology, the case advanced. On May 24, 2022, her first name was confirmed as “Kelly” via an article by forensic specialist Yolanda McClary.

Kelly has been identified through forensic genealogy and on this website, you can read all about her and the people involved in this case. You can also check this page for more details and links to other articles.

Rest in peace, Kelly.

Author Notes

I write about old, unsolved cases from the pre-DNA era. They need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigation of these cases to professionals.

Posts include homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to these cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme and research. It remains my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are sorted by the victim’s last name. They are free to the public.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the about page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.

Thank you,

Alice de Sturler
