The post-mortem has confirmed the death of Alex Spence was not suspicious. The Humberside Police said a file would now be prepared for the coroner ahead of an inquest.
Alex Spence disappeared April 10, 2010. His family and friends frantically tried to find him. They reached out to the city, distributed pictures, launched websites, and reached out on Twitter and Facebook to the broader public.
At first, there was speculation that Alex might have been depressed or stressed from worked related factors. His wife, hoping that Alex needed time to himself, even wrote an open letter to him asking him to let someone know he was unharmed and, to come home. That letter can be read here in my post “From Clare to Alex.”
There is a possibility that Alex Spence, who was seen walking without difficulty out of the pub on the first series of CCTV images, may have been more drunk than we expected. Remember that the second series of CCTV images showed a man walking with considerable difficulty. By that time, Alex may have fallen and hit his head while walking along the river. Later, he may have fallen into the river and unfortunately was not able to save himself. However, since we do not have all the details yet, this is my speculation. As soon as more information becomes available it will be posted here on DCC. The newspaper article is here.
