DaQuan Anthony Martin (Nov 23, 1993 – Jul 2, 2016)

October 1, 2024 By Alice

Early on July 2, 2016, first responders got a call about a possible gunshot victim in the 1100 block of Church Street near Princess Anne Road, Norfolk, Virginia. The papers do not specify who made that call or if others heard gun shots too.

Police found DaQuan Anthony Martin (22) in the car. He had been shot. Martin was brought to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. From this article, we know Martin was shot in his head and neck.

Another person, also a gunshot victim, was brought to an area hospital by a third party. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. It is not clear if he was with Martin or how many people were inside Martin’s car.

I did not see more details about the shooting, angle of the bullets (did they come from behind, from outside or inside the car, etc.) the condition of the car (bullet holes, broken windows, damage caused by another car, dashcam, etc.) or if there was any CCTV available. Police have not released a suspect description either.

DaQuan loved to play football and is remembered as a loving father to two children.

In the series “Case of the Month” I highlight old unsolved cases. These posts are not an in-depth analysis and of course, more information can be found online and in newspaper archives.

We need to get these cases back in the mainstream media, to get people talking again, and if anything, to make sure that we do not forget the victims. Just because their cases are unsolved does not mean that we can forget about them.

With the advances in modern forensic sciences, we have a chance to find clues that previously remained hidden. So, let us review all these old cases once more.

I encourage you to share this post on your own social media platforms. By sharing these posts online, the cases reach new networks, new connections, and the latest news feeds. One day these updates may pop up in the right person’s news feed. That may be someone who can help advance the case and that is my goal.

Rest in peace, DaQuan Anthony Martin.

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.
