May 25th is National Missing Children’s Day in the USA. This year, we are raising awareness for the missing children by rocking one sock on social media.
The idea is simple: during the month of May, the National Center for the Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) is asking everyone to wear one sock, take a “footsie” (a picture or video of your feet with one sock) and post it on your social media platforms using the hashtag #RockOneSock. In doing so we do not only raise awareness for the children missing in our lives, we show support for their families.
As simple as the idea may seem, it gets people talking. “Why did you post that footsie?” Well, explain it to your friends and make them aware of the many children that go missing every year:
- According to the FBI, in 2015 there were 460,699 reports of missing children made to law enforcement in the USA.
- In 2015, the NCMEC was able to help law enforcement in more than 13,700 cases of missing children. Let’s help the NCMEC to assist the authorities in even more cases this year.
I have several cases of missing children worldwide here on my blog. Just to name a few: Teekah Lewis, Kyron Horman, Joe Helt, Joseph Halpern, Kimberly Arrington, from Australia the Beaumont Children, and from the Netherlands Willeke Dost. There are many more missing person cases here.
All these families are still hoping for news. They need your support and understanding.
