On December 9, 1955, around 2am in the morning, police received a call from a taxi driver. He had seen a delivery van parked on Acadia Street, at the corner with Roome, in an unusual way.
Police found the body of Michael Leo Resk inside the Chevrolet delivery truck. This is the oldest case on HRP’s Unsolved Major Crimes List, see the earlier post “Halifax Unsolved Crimes.”
Michael Leo Resk was last seen during the evening on December 8, 1955, at approximately 11:45 p.m. Mr. Resk was shot execution-style and died of multiple gun shot wounds.
The investigation revealed that the victim and his brother owned and operated a store on Gottingen Street, Halifax. The victim usually left his house on Poplar Street late in the evening to go to his store to help his brother in locking up for the night. On this particular evening, Mr. Resk never made it to the store.
Police believe that there are persons who have information that could result in an arrest and possible charges. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Integrated HRP/RCMP Major Crime Unit at 1(902)490-5331.
