Found: David Virgil Neily

November 14, 2021 By Alice

David NeilyIn 2011, Sue Carney wrote a guest blog post about the disappearance of David Virgil Neily. Now, he had been found.

On May 7, 2020, a private nature reserve employee called the Mendocino County Sheriff. He had found what he believed to be human remains.

The remains were in a forest near Branscomb and just about 3.5 miles (5.6 kilometers) from where Neily’s car had been found. David’s son Ryan found his father’s car as Sue described in her post.

Jim Wood, a Forensic Odontologist, examined the remains. He compared the dental records and supported by DNA determined that the remains were indeed David Virgil Neily.

“The examinations found no evidence of trauma, the statement said, and the sheriff’s office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.” If you read Sue’s post, there was enough to be concerned about.

On a blog about David, his daughter, Lisa, describes her father. As Sue described, David endured troubling times in his life, from physical and verbal abuse as a child, to battling depression as a teenager and into adulthood.

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.

Thank you,

Alice de Sturler
