Dana Michelle Speights Solomon (May 17, 1985 – Nov 19, 2006) was hit by a small truck around 7pm on November 12, 2006 on Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida. The driver never stopped. Her case remains unsolved.
Dana (21) was flown to UF Health Jacksonville, formerly Shands, and put in a medically induced coma. Her organs failed. She died from her injuries on November 19, 2006. She left behind a one-year old son, Landen. Her older sister Heather has been taking care of him since Dana died.
Remembering Dana
Every November, Dana’s family visits her grave and they remember their child, sister, and mother. Landen has a message for the driver who hit his mom: “That they would come forward and not just be silent.”

On that fatal night, Dana was walking home. She was walking with traffic as there was no sidewalk. She wore dark-colored clothes that night. These two things may have contributed to her getting hit however, it is no excuse for the driver not to stop. The impact of her body against the truck should have been noticeable to the driver.
Paint chips
According to Heather, police told the family that they managed to get car paint ships from Dana’s clothes analyzed. Heather said that the possible color of the small truck was metallic blue-green. Dana’s husband was questioned and cleared. His vehicle doesn’t match the description or the color.
