The Chair by Painted Heroes is a movie in pre-production phase.

I contacted the people behind this movie on Twitter. Horror is not my normal genre of interest but of course, capital punishment is.

The description of the movie reminded me of Brubaker with Robert Redford.

Results: I am backing the movie and Peter Simeti, President/Publisher of Alterna Comics, wrote the guest post below.

THE CHAIR’s story focuses on Richard Sullivan, an innocent man on death row that has witnessed the torture and murder of his fellow inmates at the hands of the prison’s Warden.

The Warden’s a mean and sadistic psychopath that’s dealing out his own version of justice, extracting some real brutal punishments on some of the prisoners: sawing their legs off, cutting them in half, and some more twisted stuff that viewers will just have to see to believe. So Sullivan decides he has to fight back otherwise the same fate will become of him and in doing so, he’s pushed to the brink of sanity.

The inspiration for this story comes from a few places, it’s a relatively grounded story even though it’s purely fiction, sprinkled with some Twilight Zone and Batman (particularly Arkham Asylum stories) influence.

As far as my thoughts on capital punishment go, I can see both sides of the argument. It’s an extremely difficult decision, putting someone to death. There have been extremely tragic cases in history, where innocent people have been sentenced to death. In a perfect world, a person would never be convicted of a crime they didn’t commit. But then again, in a perfect world, capital punishment wouldn’t even be a topic of discussion.
